Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of objects can you scan?

The short answer: Almost anything you can hold! Our Revopoint MetroY scanner is designed to handle everything from small, intricate mechanical parts to larger components like car fenders or architectural details. We specialize in "difficult" geometries that traditional measuring tools can’t capture. Note: Very transparent, extremely shiny, or "fuzzy" surfaces may require a temporary, non-destructive dulling spray to ensure the highest accuracy.

I’m a hobbyist with a broken part. Can you help me fix it?

Absolutely. This is one of our most popular services. If you have a part that is no longer manufactured (like a vintage car clip or a broken household gear), we can scan the pieces, "digitally repair" them through reverse engineering, and provide a 3D-printable file or a finished replacement part.

How accurate are the scans?

We deliver industrial-grade precision. Depending on the size of the object, our scanners can capture details with a point accuracy of up to 0.03mm. This level of detail is perfect for engineering tolerances, quality inspections, and ensuring a perfect fit for mating parts.

What file format will I receive?

We provide files tailored to your specific needs:

  • For 3D Printing: High-density STL or OBJ meshes.

  • For Engineering/CAD: Professional STEP or IGES files that you can edit in software like Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.

Do I need to bring my object to you?

Many clients ship their parts to us via UPS or FedEx, and we ship them back once the scan is complete. For local residential or industrial clients in the Eastern MI area, we can also arrange for drop-offs.

Onsite services can be scheduled if required.

How much does 3D scanning cost?

Because every object’s geometry is unique, we quote by the project. Factors include the size of the object, the complexity of its surfaces, and whether you need a "raw scan" or a fully engineered CAD model. Small residential scans are often more affordable than people realize—contact us for a quick estimate!
